Environmental Education
Through a partnership of the Philadelphia Water Department, Fairmount Park, and the Fairmount Park Conservancy, innovative environmental education programs are offered throughout the park system.
- The ECObus and Outreach program, now in its third year, is helping to develop the next generation of Park stewards by providing a unique two-part environmental education experience to Philadelphia schoolchildren free-of-charge.
- The newly expanded program brings students to the Park's environmental centers while also offering teachers the option of an in-classroom lesson.
- Taught by Fairmount Park environmental educators, the outreach program promotes specialized learning opportunities and stewardship, using local parks as the focal ecosystem.
- Since 2004, more than 12,000 children and educators and 308 classes have benefited from the ECObus and Outreach program.
- Environmental Education Programming is funded by Lincoln Financial Group Foundation, Comcast, TD Bank, and the Philadelphia Water Department.
