A Vision for the Future
Fairmount Park was established over 150 years ago by the City’s early leaders to preserve the area’s valuable open space as a resource for the citizens in and around the emerging metropolis. Today, Fairmount Park is one of the nation’s largest urban park systems, utilized by millions of people every year. Investment in well-maintained green space delivers multiple benefits including social, economic and environmental sustainability. A properly funded park system will enhance Philadelphia’s image, ensure that residents and visitors have access to a diverse place for recreation, and provide corporations with a unique tool for recruitment.
The Fairmount Park Conservancy is committed to entrepreneurial thinking and partnerships that will position Fairmount Park as one of the world's best urban park systems. The Fairmount Park system is as vital to the community, economy and environment of Philadelphia as its historic district, its universities, its hospitals, its business community and its sports teams.
With the assistance of the Fairmount Park Conservancy, the Fairmount Park system will:
- Attract people to Philadelphia and its neighborhoods, giving them a compelling reason to choose to live and work here.
- Contribute to Philadelphia’s unique way of life, which combines the 21st century urban experience with a wealth of natural beauty.
- Be the cornerstone of a more sustainable and green city by safeguarding air and water quality with abundant and healthy woodlands and watersheds.
- Serve as a national treasure and showpiece for our city.
- Promote healthy, active lifestyles and encourage community renewal, collaboration and stewardship.
